Homeowners Walter & Linda Coppinger were up against sinking concrete, widening cracks, and layers of built-up grime until they decided to face those obstacles head-on.
As I stepped out of my car to meet Walter and Linda Coppinger and let them know I’d be capturing footage of our team providing concrete care services, I immediately felt like I was home. Not my actual home though… The Coppingers have a much more inviting exterior decor that matches the current season. (Meanwhile, a life-sized skeleton lived on my front porch waiting for Trick-or-Treaters until mid-December.)
You could tell that Walter and Linda truly care about creating an exterior to match the warmth you’d find within during gatherings year-round. After two decades of calling this “home”, their attention had shifted to the widening cracks, unsafe drops, and built-up grime in their concrete driveway, walkway, and front stoop.
“We want to stay here now because we found that living on one floor we can live here forever – and to be able to get in and out with one step was a priority for us,” Walter explained. He’d go on to emphasize the importance of living in a safe and comfortable environment.
Walter has worked in real estate and construction for over 20 years and has used A-1’s services in those situations, but never at home. He often uses skills and lessons he’s learned in the workplace in his personal life, like reinvesting 2-3% of the total value of their home each year in a project. Last year: a new deck. This year: some changes inside the home, and now, their concrete.
“Replacing concrete is not always the best project because you're disturbing the foundation underneath,” he stated as another lesson, “We start all over with new concrete, which is going to settle again.”
Hours of online research, two estimates for replacing concrete, and two estimates for repairing it led him back to A-1 – this time to handle a personal obstacle. “... we just felt like we needed to be taken care of as the customer and not just be okay with another project down the road. We felt like A-1 was on top of it.”

But when I asked Walter what his favorite part of this experience was, he said, “The best part, I felt, was working with the team that came on site. That group of individuals was very dedicated to their work. They each knew their strengths and what their tasks were to do and that’s what you want when you’re having something [professional] done. And the end product was exactly what we were looking for.”
Their concrete was restored, and their home was safer as a result. “A-1 is a company that you could contact, have them come out, and feel confident that they’re going to be looking at your issues, as well as your concerns, and try and address those for you… and in the end product, I feel they’ve done that.”
