A-1 Concrete Leveling and Foundation Repair History

Some people have good ideas, but Grover Miller had a great one. For over 40 years, until his death in September 2013, Grover was recognized as a gifted inventor and innovator of pumping technologies for the construction industry. His years of experience and innovation led him to the development of the adjustable piston and screener for the self-contained concrete leveling unit.

A-1 Concrete’s proprietary equipment allows us to provide an entire concrete leveling operation on one truck. Our system provides the scale needed for large jobs, as well as the compact size and efficiencies needed for smaller jobs. Big or small – we do it all.

Our Technology

Innovative Technology sets A-1 apart as a leader in the concrete leveling industry. Grover Miller's unique design represents over thirty-five years of experience in pumping technologies, including eight years he spent developing and perfecting the adjustable piston and screener.

Grover obtained patents on certain improvements of the concrete leveling unit, and A-1 has secured exclusive rights to this equipment for the use of its nationwide locations.

The A-1 system represents tremendous cost savings in terms of labor, materials, and time. In addition, the A-1 system maintains the appearance of the customer’s concrete surface; a decided advantage over the cumbersome "tear out and replace" method.

A Brief History of A-1 Concrete Leveling

Grover Miller pioneered modern concrete leveling techniques in 1982, with the idea of providing customers with a lower-cost alternative to replacing settled concrete slabs. Grover's vision was realized after many hours working in his barn/workshop in Peninsula, Ohio.

Grover's industrial concrete experience included the lifting of dams, highway work, barges, airline runways, and roadways. This background inspired Grover's ideas for creating a self-contained small truck system that would offer flexible residential concrete repair solutions. He added and changed parts until the system was perfected. He patented his equipment and launched A-1 Concrete Leveling. Over 30 years later, Grover's vision has been built into the largest concrete leveling company in America.

In 1992, Mr. Miller developed the adjustable piston and screener for the self-contained leveling unit, for which patents have been obtained. These, along with other innovations, have allowed A-1 Concrete Leveling to provide a highly efficient and cost-effective method for leveling concrete surfaces. By using this distinct method, A-1 is able to offer concrete leveling and repairs at much-reduced costs, compared to traditional "tear-out" and "re-pour" methods.

A-1 Concrete Leveling & Foundation Repair Mission Statement

Let everything we do be grounded in a commitment to honor God (Ethics).

Each customer will be treated with integrity, dignity and respect (Respect).

Value of the customer and value to the customer governs how we run our business (Value).

Every completed job will demonstrate our commitment to excellence (Quality).

Loyalty to our customers, staff and business partners is what makes us a family business (Relationship).

In 1993, A-1 Concrete Leveling began to franchise the operations and award this technology to qualified individuals in selected markets. Over more than 25 years, we have found that the process works, the marketing works, and A-1 Concrete Leveling has expanded across the nation. Grover remained an integral part of the day-to-day operations of A-1, and continued to invent, until the time of his death in September 2013. Among his innovative ideas are the patented Quad–Power® Piering System for raising buildings when the foundations have sunken.

A-1 Concrete Leveling is honored to carry on the legacy of innovation, excellence, and value that began with Grover Miller in his backyard workshop.

Taking it to the Street

A-1’s core business is the leveling of concrete slabs. After drilling a small hole in a concrete slab (from sidewalk blocks to airport runways), an environmentally safe slurry is hydraulically injected under the existing slab, lifting it to its original position. It’s quick, cost-effective, and guaranteed.

The A-1 system maintains the appearance of our customers’ concrete surfaces – a decided advantage over the cumbersome replacement method of tearing out and re-pouring concrete.

Continuous Technology Improvement

A-1 has expanded into solving structural problems including bowed basement walls, leaning chimneys, and sunken foundations. Our patented Quad–Power® Piering System offers superior lifting power. The expanded surface area at the base of each pier produces a load-bearing capacity that is superior to competitive methods. The Quad–Power® system provides a cost-effective and permanent solution in more varied soil strata and soil conditions than any competitive piering system. A-1 Concrete Leveling’s unique methods and patented technology give us a competitive advantage that benefits every homeowner and commercial entity looking for cost-effective concrete lifting, leveling, and repair solutions.
